Wonderful walk up the mountain - even in hot conditions as the path is shaded and small chapels on the way offer fresh water straight from the mountain. Take the gondola back down. It's very cheap and great fun while soaking up breathtaking views.
The easy way to see the mummified body of saint ubaldo is to take the cable car. But the best way is to park at the Roman amphitheatre and meander up and up through the medieval city, through the city wal at Porto ubaldo. From there there's a wide, winding path right up to the Basilica steps. After refreshment from... 更多
Had a tranquil, if steep, walk to the basilica. There were a few fountains along the way to refill water bottles, which was much appreciated. Inside the basilica courtyard was quiet and the church itself was lovely. We, of course, admired St. Ubaldo's remains and also the massive "ceri" from the yearly festival. The stained glass windows depicting the life... 更多
A visit to the Basilica is more about the views down over Gubbio and beyond than seeing the Basilica specifically. Once up here you can also walk up to the ruins of the Rocca. It's a stiff climb, but still worthwhile.
We walked up the hill to this church and it was well worth the effort. Gubbio has a lot of tradition and history and is a very interesting place to visit. The church at the top is spectacular. We especially loved lightening a candle which were not real candles but LED when you put in your money the candle lit... 更多
The trip to the basilica is great fun - the funicular is a standing cage and to ride, one needs to hop into the cage at the bottom and hop out at the top. (the funicular slows down, but does not stop) While ascending the mountain, views of chickens and goats pass by and, at one point, the pine forest... 更多
Fantastic views on the way up from the "funivia" on the old town of Gubbio. The basilica is very nice and worth spending some time visiting. Don't miss the "ceri", these three 300lbs wood structures that are taken down to the city and brought back to the mountain by teams running all the way up on the feast of St... 更多
If you are just on a day trip to Gubbio it is understandable that this Basilica may be forgotten because the city itself has so much to see. But if you have some more time it is certainly worth it to go to the top of the mountain to see the Basilica of Saint Ubaldo. The basilica itself is not... 更多
