Unfortunately, since we made for ourselves quite busy plan of going around Sicily, we had only 3 hours to spend in Pantalica which is definetly not enough. Next year we ll definetly come for all day to do the full tour! We came from the Sortino entrance. The nature around takes breath, you re walking next to very beautiful canyon,... 更多
Although we were with a real archaeologist who'd showed us some pretty impressive things already, we weren't prepared for this: an isthmus of land, surrounded by extremely high sheer cliffs into which are cut THOUSANDS of burial sites. The scope is mind-boggling! You don't need a guide, but some time studying the comments here or a reliable guide book will... 更多
There are two ways of getting to the Necropoli di Pantalica, (a collection of cemeteries with rock-cut chamber tombs dating back to 7th/13th century BC), and whilst the paths may link, the roads do not. We came from the Palazzolo side and the countryside en route is not unattractive, though signage could do with a little attention. Small car parking... 更多
We were staying in Siracusa and wanted to visit the Pantalica on Sunday when there is no feasible public transport to the site. We found info Pantalica Experience (+39 338 4752390), at the tourist office. One call and Paulo arranged to pick us up at our B&B and take us to the gorge for a hike and return us afterwards... 更多
We spent a wonderful 3 hours in the gorge, exploring tombs, taking in the scenery. The kids felt like Indiana Jones and probably enjoyed this more than anything else we have done in Sicily. Bit of a trek but worth it. We went in from the Ferla side.
Wow. Another time and place completely. Never seen anything like it - including a hand-sized freshwater crab in the river. This is 'Blair-witch' meets 'The godfather' - in the most remote setting imaginable. Will leave an impression with me for a very long time indeed.
Pantalica is a great place to hike and explore. Today, my wife and I went for a 3-hour hike. The March weather was fantastic. Cool enough that we didn't sweat too much, but warm enough to make it enjoyable. We started at the trailhead that begins at the end of Via Pantalica (Strada Regionale 11). We hiked into the canyon... 更多
Friends we were visiting recommended coming to see the caves which we had not realised was a World Heritage attraction until we picked up a leaflet. The caves were inhabited until quite recently well worth taking time to find.
Having read the previous reviews ,I may be difficult to please but although I thought the walk was pleasant over a gorge and you can see some tombs built in the rock face,I was expecting something more spectacular. I am an avid traveller and have been to many beauty spots in my time ,so perhaps I expect them all to... 更多
