It was overcast and drizzling but the walk was quite special. The island is tranquil and the tourists seem to respect this as they walk around. There is a prescribed walk - to be taken before or after visiting the church which is also an experience.
Very nice little island, a boat trip to it only costs 4,50€. There: calm, silent, unique. Unfortunately as we where there it was impossible to climb the stairs up to a tower next to the abbey for enjoying the view around the island. Still: a must!
Actually rather a dull little place unless you are visiting out of a genuine sense of religious devotion. The walk round takes about 10 minutes and the church , although very old, is of limited interest historically, other than some good frescoes. As it's a convent site there are signs everywhere asking visitors to be particularly quiet and not take... 更多
The coat over is lovely, it only takes a couple of minutes but the views of Orta are great. The island itself is nice and full of lovely buildings of course, but there is very little to do there besides walk around the place. We only saw one shop and one restaurant. It is definitely worth going over, but don't... 更多
You can use public transportation to go to the island. The Basilica di San Giulio is beautiful. You can stroll in the narrow streets. Everywhere there are signs inviting to silence. The Island is a peaceful place and the nature is adorable.
This is worth the price of the boar ride over. Make sure that you take the boat that circles the island and check prices before you pay for your way over. Take the walk of silence, sure is thought provoking. Beautiful old houses and a church where some people were making a pilgrimage to the monastery.
A short boat trip, 4.5Euro for public transportation to and from the island. You can tour at your own and you will see it all within two hours. Try to avoid the crowd and come early (In Sep, 10:30 AM was early enough) Worth the effort
reasonably priced return ferry from Orta San Giulio to this peaceful island,do not forget it is a religious order or you will be told off for talking by a bossy woman as I was!
A short boat ride across to the island and you are able to walk around and visit the church. It is good that the Nuns allow people on the island but I wish more people would try and observe the silence and not walk round talking into a mobile with a big loud voice. It was a devotional time, a... 更多
