Be sure and walk the wall while you are inside the walled city. The walk certainly gives a different perspective of the city. We only walked a portion of the wall, but enjoyed the views. So don't miss it!
The tower is unique in that it has a turret of sorts at the top. It is a projecting portion of the fortification that forms an irregular pattern (like a pentagon) and, through the openings (embrasures), armaments/ordnances could be fired. This is the gate that we entered the city by. There is plenty of parking here and is about 3 lovely blocks from the center of town. Walking on the cobblestones can be difficult if you have any sort of impairment. I was walking on a recovering broken foot and it was difficult (but worth it) to navigate the cobblestones.... 更多
Just seeing this photo brings back so many amazing memories of this trip. I would walk that wall with my husband of 24 years any day. Maybe this is how we should celebrate our 25th!
