Walk all the way to the top of the mountain and this is your reward. Driving up there just seems wrong. You get a really good sense of why the mountain was considered holy from prehistoric times to the middle ages.
you walk amongst the ruins of the old monastery .. BUT it has amazing views down over the city ... and is a great place to escape the hassle of tourism and people.... would i go again ? .. YES ... also great to bring a picknick :)

Even on a cloudy day, this kloster ruin is worth the trip from Heidelberg. It isn't too bad a walk, but it helps to be in a little bit of shape for walking :)! On a clear day this is great place to visit. You are free to walk around the ruin and up the two towers. Not much signage,... 更多
Hike heiligenberg, climb all the steps up past Thingstatte and reward yourself with this interesting little pile of ruins that are almost hidden and I would imagine often overlooked by tourists to the area. Quite the gem. I enjoy the hike so have been here on multiple visits to Heidelberg and have always appreciated the peacefulness of the spot.
Take the time to drive up to these ruins. A nice wooded walk leads you up and you will most likely be met with only a handful of other tourists and an interesting site.
