A combination of the remains of a Roman necropolis and an old christian church. Good for a short visit - say 30 mins or so. Its not huge. Entry is not expensive, so if in the area its worth a visit. It was painted by van Gogh.
Although there isn't much left, this cemetery has a certain vibe that takes you back in time. As you stroll down the alley lined with Roman sarcophagi, under the plane trees, you'll feel a little bit like a 19th century stroller as glimpsed by Van Gogh or Gauguin. The chapel at the end of the alley is also an interesting... 更多
Definitely try to see all the roman ruins in Arles, to get an overview of the history but if you have to skip one, this is it. It is just an old graveyard from roman times, and can be covered in the time it takes to walk from one end to the other. It is a 10 minute walk from... 更多
Alyschamps is a peaceful place to visit. Although not as large as it once was it is amazing to think of how long this place has been in existence and what a place of pilgrimage it once was. Amazingly this is the starting point of one of the French ways to the Camino de Santiago which shows how famous Arles... 更多
Well first this is a bit of a find. You can get to it via walking or driving. I recommend you do it near the end of the day, as you can visit many Ancient Roman sites in the Arles city proper, and end the tour hear. It is very peaceful, quiet and generally not super crowded so a nice... 更多
Very interesting place that features a set up of one of Van Gogh's paintings still quite identical as in his lifetime. The church at the end of the pathway is huge and architecturally incredible. Definitely worth seeing these Elysian Fields...
Now this you can manage in a wheelchair with only a few steps up to the church at the bottom of the avenue. Amazing detail remaining on some of the sarcophagi that line the walk way. Most of them quite small which makes me wonder why the steps in the amphitheatre were so deep !!! The church at the botton... 更多
A short walk from the main attractions in Arles, well worth a visit if you have time. Beautiful pedestrian area; lots of beautiful plants and fat French cats sunning themselves
I love this visit. Arles is full of ancient roman history. It is a great necropolis. it is a little bit away from the city center but it is nice to walk until it.
The UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site of les Alyscamps or Elysian Fields is a must see destination when in Arles. As soon as you enter the site you're "greeted" by a scary mausoleum reassembling a church and inside the burial site of a French noble family. On opposite sides rows of stone sarcophagies some bearing old inscriptions. On the very end... 更多
