The Tapestry tells a rather interesting story of the life of one of the kings of the area. It describes the story in panels sewed into linen. The art work is fantastic and did I mention it is about 186 ft long I believe. It is definitely a site to see.
This is an important historical display, and headphones are provided with cost of admission to narrate the handiwork on display. Takes about 45 minutes and you can purchase a package ticket to include two other Bayeaux museums, both worth a visit as well.
Didn't know about the tapestry ahead of time but found the side trip to be truly interesting. The display was unique and follow on information useful. Feels like the background information should have preceded the viewing of the tapestry but was okay as is.
The tapestry showing the victory of William the Conqueror in 1066 is accompanied by an audiotour that, unlike audio guides in other museums, proceeds from one section of the tapestry to the next, in an uninterrupted commentary. It's exactly what you need to enhance your viewing of the tapestry. There are also scale models and a video, in either French... 更多
A must see if you are in this area of Normandy. The museum and its staff are very well organised and efficient in allowing visitors to view the Bayeux Tapestry. It is in amazing condition given its age and its history and the story is well explained through earpieces/mobile phone handsets. Overall it is stunning and the explicit detail, stitching... 更多
We went there to hide from the strong winds and rain but it turned out to be a rewarding afternoon. I didn't think much of it after reading about the tapestry online, but it really came to life with the help of the audio guide. It's really amazing how this piece of such a scale is still so well-preserved after... 更多
The museum is in the heart of Bayeux adjacent to Place du Quebec. It does not take very long to go through the museum. The centerpiece exhibit is the 70 meter long tapestry that tells the story of William the Conqueror's rise to power; the audio guide which is available in several languages is a must to get the most... 更多
Bayeux is a beautiful city unspoilt and quiet spiritual. The tapestry itself is stunning and brings history to life. The telephone headsets are a real treat and the combined tickets for the museum are a bargain. A truly moving and remarkable experience.
This tapestry is 70 meters long and 1000 years old yet is in remarkable condition considering it's misguided history. It tells the story of the story of William the Conqueror and an excellent audioguide clearly and concisely walks you through the story explaining what each part of the tapestry is showing. You will learn some history while you are amazed... 更多
