It looks like a fortress and it is very impressive, outside as well as inside. Especially particular is not alone that the cathedral is build up from bricks, but also the inside in his whole is painted. And what a beautiful organ.
It is very impressive, though not quiite as beautiful, in my view, as the Romanesque churches in Toulouse. The archiitecture and the red color are almost unique and it certainly is the most impressive monument in a very beautiful city. I loved Albi, where we went for the Toulouse Lautrec museum.
Spectacular, definitely worth a visit. We visited many abbeys, churches, basilicas and cathedrals but this one was a definite stand out. Loved it.
After getting used to the darkness, take a few minutes then take a look at the wonderful wall and ceiling decoration of centuries ago. Much to be admired.
This is an amazingly decorated cathedral which is quite jaw dropping in its painted splendour. There are two parts to the cathedral - a free section which you can enter and see the vast part of the cathedral and the "coeur" which is the central part and which requires tickets (€4 if I remember correctly). We chose not to do... 更多
This was a nice surprise. We did not realize the magnitude nor the history of this amazing brick built cathedral. It is well worth the 5 euro to have the audio talk as you enter into the chapel area. The history and delicate work is incredible.
Well worth the visit to Albi. When at the cathedral, pay the fee for the audio guide --- to see all of the cathedral you must pay for the audio guide.
Supposed to be one of the largest brick-built buildings in the world, constructed after the Cathar heresy and designed to teach the faithful who was boss. The scale is unbelievable. The interior walls and vaulting is completely decorated and reminds us of what our own cathedrals would have been like in the Middle Ages. Very interesting Choir in high-Gothic stonework... 更多
definitely worth walking to and reading the history of this very interesting cathedral. Hike down the river from thre is also very nice and give very nice views of old Albi.
St Cecile is a beautiful and huge brick structure that dominates the town of Albi. It is filled with history, beauty and amazing art. The story of the Cathars is very important to the history of France in this region. This church plays a role in the end of the Cathar people.
