The collection of the museum is not that impressive but if you have time in Tours it is worth visiting. The most outstanding thing in this museum is fortunately just in front of the builiding. It is Cedrus libani tree, over age of 200. Cedrus libani became very very rare tree even in Lebanon or Siria.
Tickets are very reasonable (5 Euro) for admission to this charming museum. The collection has an eclectic mix of works - and a few little gems that are surprises (a little Rembrandt was a favorite of mine). Best of all, unlike the Louvre or Musée D'Orsay there were just a few visitors to share the experience with.
Tours has a lot of attractions. To drink a glas of one of the Loire wines outside in the fading light, to stroll along the mighty river. Sometimes your mind needs the stimulation of a good melancholic painting or a very uplifting one. We went to the musee des beaux arts. They have a lot of minor paintings by major... 更多
a surprising mix - some tepid 19th century pics but some magnificent ones - Corot, Rubens, Francobasso, Mantegna - but what a mix in this building full of stairs and levels only got at it in one way or another.
Set in a lovely old building, paintings and pieces of art spread throughout many rooms, feeling of spaciousness. English explanations available .
Some good paintings to see, but nothing top notch. We could not believe how closely over looked we were, there appeared to be guardians every where. The fee also covered entrance to decent toilets. The one in the surrounding garden was horrific, but the garden itself was so beautiful. Also note the Ceder tree, planted 1802.
As a concession the museum was OK would have resented paying the full price, paintings well laid out and the guides were very helpful - a bit too much in fact, volunteering information when we just wanted quiet time to look at the artwork. Gardens outside good - particularly as the music festival had started and a gentle folk singer... 更多
With an extensive collection of paintings and nuerous pieces of furniture, this is well worth a visit. Many of the artists are little known but this does not detract from the quality of the collection.
