Not only is this a significant medieval site, but it is a great maritime museum. It is dedicated to those mariners from Saint-Malo who navigated there ships around Cape Horn. The views from the top are stunning. Its a long walk from Saint-Malo, or you can take a taxi.
Several stories of small rooms with exhibits from the history of the area, look for the albatross and the tobacco pouches made from albatross feet. Labels are in French. I have been to this area so many times...it's probably my favorite part of the St Servan area of St Malo. Just a couple of bars and restaurants and lovely views across the bay. The tower itself is well worth a look too !
The Solidor is a strengthened keep with 3 linked towers located in the estuary of the river Rance. It was built between 1369-1382 by Jean IV the Duke of Brittany, to control the access to the river and the town of St.Malo. We went to this area for dinner at "la Cale" and went for a lovely evening walk and discovered this place. I would highly recommend visiting this place and enjoy the views along with your tour of the tower. We did not get to go inside as it was late at night. It costs 6.00 euros per adult.
