Right on the Sligo skyline you can see the imposing building of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with it's main entrance on Temple Street and a secondary stepped entrance on John Street in Sligo Ireland. It is an imposing structure. It is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elphin. It was designed by the London Architect George... 更多
We went to mass here while in Sligo. This church is seriously impressive. Huge! The interior is very decorative and very very nice. When the priest left the altar at end of mass he seemed to be walking for ages before he was out of sight - as he walked around I could imagine priests doing this same walk in... 更多
Lovely in a much smaller way; but all the same gorgeous and spiritual features of the magnificent cathedrals of Ireland and the U.K. Well worth ones time to see and experience.
We were driving thru Sligo and discovered that the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was on our route. One of the things we enjoyed in visiting this Cathedral was the beautiful stations of the cross. Its not a large Cathedral in comparison to others in Ireland, but worth a visit.
So many historic cathedrals are not maintained as well as they once were -- it is so expensive to keep these places painted, cleaned, restored, etc. This one is lovely and maintained as well as any I have ever seen. not really much to say about the local church but its fablous inside, the stations of the cross, 2 morning masses during the week and more masses on the weekend.
This was my first visit to the cathedral so I made my three wishes. It is a wonderful Cathedral & the ornate alter is especially beautiful. I attended 10.30 Mass there & it was very memorable.
Visited this cathedral on Sunday 10th May for 10.30am mass. It was a nice surprise to find 37 young children making their first holy communion. The priest made the ceremony very special for them. It is a fine cathedral and well worth a visit.
