This is a beautiful and well represented monastic ruin from the 12th Century. It was established by the Cistercian order and ultimately supplanted nearby Monasterboice. Though these are ruins, and not much remains other than the footprint of the Abbey, it gives you a good idea of the layout. During the normal season, there is a visitor’s center that is... 更多
This Cistercian Monastery was built in the 12th century. The order was was founded in France in 1098 and this was their first Monastery in Ireland. The ruins are very well preserved and look superb. The ruins are a wonderful photo opportunity, but little else available out there. But, again, I love photo opportunity and unique places to photo.

Difficult to find - down a narrow road. Mostly demolished but worth a visit. Some restoration work being carried out.
Once you reach this haven of peace you will know why the monks once settled here . All that can be heard are the birds and the cows in the fields , the stream flowing by and the odd tourist . One of my favourite places to visit

Very enjoyable walk round the ruins with well presented information boards that are all so easy to read and photograph. Some fabulous scenes for taking photographs. Highly... 更多
