A nice collection of shops a very short distance from the Castle. Good quality merchandise abound. One can find a variety of wears & wares most made & sold, it seemed, by the artists themselves. A very fun place to shop. The Centre also has a cozy cafe with good pastries & a restaurant in the upper level with very... 更多
We had a lovely lunch upstairs in the café, which was utterly packed, but still quite pleasant. However, the shop was a disappointment, just full of stuff for tourists and not really much cutting edge "design" in sight.
We absolutely loved this place. Firstly, don't go into the shops at the front before visiting the craft shops behind first. The artisans were really interesting- told us a lot about how they make their wares which made for a really pleasant visit. We bought a silver bangle and ring, pottery mugs and a serving dish. I'm delighted with every... 更多
Beautifully appointed collection of shops and studios. Main retail area very classically presented with wonderful array of goods and products. However, very expensively and highly priced. Linked to this is an obvious bias towards tourist visitors you the pleasant and well presented staff.
When I researched travelling to KilKenny there was a lot said about it having a great assortment of local artist selling their arts and grafts and this Design Center was supposed it sell it. Well that is not exactly true, this is a chain retail store in Ireland and it does sell some local artist's things however the vast majority... 更多
After researching places to purchase Irish-made souvenirs, I was looking forward to visiting Kilkenny and the Design Center. My reading pre-trip gave me the impression that local artisans were selling fine made crafts. Imagine my surprise when I saw my first one in Dublin. The Design Center is nice and it does have uniquely Irish, yet mass produced items. I... 更多
We only visited the cafe here because the service was so slow staff were gathered around the till whilst people were wondering who was being served and who was being ignored. The hot chocolate ordered to take away was warm and sickly no lid offered had to ask the disinterested assistant three times for a lid which she pointed to... 更多
The design centre upper floor has a deal with our B&B (Butler House) to provide breakfast - a win/win for all. Breakfasts were wonderful, big (as expected) and served by delightful staff. The room itself is a refurbished stable upper floor (I think) - big wood trusses, bright walls, etc. Only open to 6pm - great looking for lunch. The... 更多
Although somewhat limited in scope, we enjoyed our visit. There were two galleries with Irish/Kilkenny design displays. Very current and fun. There were some shops/workshops, that were interesting. The gift shop was top-notch. The cafe (reviewed separately) was outstanding.
We had breakfast here twice as part of the deal at Butler House. The scones, soda bread, and other baked goods were so good we had to stop in the cafe to sample the afternoon sweets. The walnut cake and pear tart were every bit as good as the morning fare, which is to say world-class. The baker here is... 更多
