The round tower at the Aghadoe cemetery is all that remains of the church. The cemetery still serves the town of Killarney. It commands the most spectacular view of all of Killarney's attractions and is fittingly known as " Heaven on a Hillside" from a local verse.
My excitement was to find the ogham stone--5th to 6th century on the south wall, together with a magnificently carved stone from a later era. . Real finds for a ogham stone, architecture and antique church chaser like me! I hired a private driver from the train station to take me to the remote church. It cost 20€ round trip... 更多
It's difficult to rate Aghadoe. As a landscape historian and with family connections, I love it there. The juxtaposition of the ancient church and ruins overlooking the mountains and the lake - just perfect Celtic positioning for the afterlife. The fact that the churchyard/cemetery is still used speaks of the affection and importance of the site to local families. If... 更多
You reach Aghadoe by car. The view is impressive! The round tower is very small, but well kept. On your way back, please walk inside the graveyard, that has some interesting burial places.

The views was gorgeous, of course, but it's also just a lovely place to see. Reading the tombstones gives you such incredible insights into... 更多
It's worth a short drive uphill from the town of Killarney to see the remains of a round tower and an ancient church as well as the spectacular views of the lakes and mountains in Killarney. It is across the street from the Aghadoe Hotel.
for us it was not so mutch to see. We've been there just for 5 minutes because it's a semitary. We've been there on day 6 in Ireland and we had seen fords and castles and ruïnes who are more beautifull than these
