A great place to people watch and marvel at the hardy swimmers of all ages who are in the sea around the diving board area of Salthill. Wonderful views too.
I stayed in the Salthill area of Galway for two nights and enjoyed walking along the promenade each day. There are great beach areas, as well as places to sit and enjoy the views.
A few days ago, day before yesterday, we were on Salthill beach, beautiful day, sitting on the beach beside the beach wall. This wide, well-paved walkway stretches from Salt Hill and its beachside kitsch to the town of Galway itself. Cyclists, joggers and roller bladers share a designated area separate from walkers and families pushing carriages. On not very common sunny days, the promenade is filled with locals and tourists taking advantage of the Bay and its beauty.
a lovely stretch of beach and promenade..so clean and well maintained. There are some very good restaurants across the road which serve good snacks.. The town is small with lots of varied touristy shops. There is a regular bus service from Galway to Salthill throughout the day.
We had a brief stop off here as had seen this beach on the road train from Galway town so decided on our way back through to have a proper stop here. Beach is not sandy (as far as we could see) but a nice stop off to while away an hour or two.
It rained the 2 days we were there. Otherwise it was a great place we stayed right across from the beach it was perfect minus the rain! Book early don't wait till you get there that is my best piece of advice of anyone traveling to Galway!
