Me and a few friends took the Johnston's Mill tour in Elgin today and I'm very happy we did! Our guide was very friendly and obviously knew what she was talking about. The tour started in the visitor centre and continued on to the factory itself. It was fascinating to see all the machines and people at work, especially since... 更多
Took a tour of the factory. You need to ring up to book. It is free and well worth it. Very interesting. Bought a beautiful cashmere scarf in the shop afterwards for £30. Had a coffee and sandwiches in the cafe as well which was in a lovely setting, clean and bright. Lots to choose from on the menu. Staff... 更多
My husband and I booked the tour and we LOVED it. First, it is really fascinating to learn the history and see the old machines. It was very cool to see the the process taking the sheared wool all the way to the finished products. They were weaving some very identifiable scarves for very famous high end French and British... 更多
Johnston's of Elgin is a classic staple of Elgin Scotland. It is the last operating mill in an area that once had 8 working mills. The machines for the various stages of making the beautiful scarves blankets and throws are truly amazing in their complexity. Really fun!
The mill shop is as you would expect filled with the companies products and others that compliment the range Top quality clothing and some good reductions instore There was no tour available but from the information centre and other people's comments , I believe it would be worth going on If a £600 sweater is your type of thing then... 更多
The Hawick mill is a knitting machine mill the tour is short and informal. The shop clerk took us around to see the new knitting machines, the cones of cashmere and wool, and all the finishing steps to the final product. At each step, we stopped to chat with the ladies and men who do the finishing handwork. It's nice... 更多
The tour was pretty interesting, despite starting with a very boring video (it’s essentially a five minute advert). You get to go right through the mill and it was great to see how raw cashmere becomes the items you see in the shops from start to finish. The tour guide was OK, a little unenthusiastic (I think they use teenagers... 更多
This is a simply unmissable (free) heritage tour of what is Scotland’s only vertical woollen mill. Not only is the tour informative and entertaining, you get taken around the mill and see the production of luxury tweeds and textiles using both contemporary and old school technology. Our guide, Sandra, was warmer than whisky, and the shop and café were outstanding.... 更多
Visited with my Pre teen daughter. Fascinating to see production process from raw material to finished product, all in one place. Informative and friendly tour guides. Great cafe and shops too. Easy parking. Would definitely recommend.
