The Caithness Horizons center is an absolute must to get the most of your visit to this area of Scotland. I was welcomed with each of my several visits there over the course of a month and always received very specific and easy to use information that truly helped make my stay more than I ever imagined. In addition the... 更多
A great museum, free entry but I was happy to give a donation. Included in the history of the local area is a fascinating exhibition on the Dounreay Nuclear facility along the cost, including the original control panels. It's a shame that has had to be cordoned off, but I guess some people can't be trusted to treat things with... 更多
Located in Thurso, this museum has been created to a very high standard and illustrates the history of Caithness from prehistoric times to the mid 20th century. The Dounreay exhibition is particularly interesting and successfully explains to the layman what the experimental reactors were all about, regardless of whether the visitor is pro or anti nuclear power. The film shown... 更多
Repeated visits to Horizons were always met with cheerfulness and great help by the staff even when deluged with surprise visitors looking for accommodation. The displays are varied, skilfully presented and intruiging. The shop and cafe are all very well presented. If you're looking for ancestors the Caithness genealogy group meets here regularly. Really worth a visit.
Stopped at Thurso and having read the information leaflet about this museum and visitor centre, called in. We must have spent 2hrs+ watching the Caithness video, reading about Dounreay and looking at the archeological artefacts. Stunning!! And free!! Well worth the donation we made. Highly recommend visiting this centre.
Stayed in Thurso for 2nights. This tourist info centre also houses a superb exhibition of local geology, culture, history and environmental issues. Free entry although donation boxes available. Lovely friendly welcome. Also houses a shop and café. Thoroughly recommend this facility.
The former town hall now houses a terrific museum with not only many ancient finds, some over 1500 years old but also a mock up of the control room of the nearby power station. Nice gift shop with many mementos of Scotland. The cafe does a nice range of snacks and cakes with hot or cold drinks. Our choices were... 更多
This is a great little museum although the Dounreay exhibition for me was the most interesting as both my brothers briefly worked there in the 70s. I'm from Thurso but haven't lived there for 34 years. My son was also very interested in the Dounreay exhibition, he wasn't that interested in the stones etc. It would be nice to see... 更多
Highly recommended - very well presented indeed, both the nostalgic historical aspects of how life used to be in the region, and the current activities. The video/film is outstanding, and the Dounreay story is revealing. Strongly deserving of support - the future funding is apparently not secure; it would be a great loss if this outstanding facility were to close...
