Visited last year when the Govan stones were on show. Such an amazing find. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and the stones breathtaking. The church itself now houses two denominations which was interesting and the marble scarsophogous another key point.
The church is very close to the bus station and subway yet could easily missed, and seems not to have the visitor numbers it deserves. The church building and contents have a substantive place in the history of Govan and the city. The stones are interesting and impressive, and augmented by other more standard church features. Take the tour: the... 更多
I had gone for a lovely walk along the Clydeside expressway and came across the Zaha Hadid designed building "The Riverside Museum". What a fantastic shaped building, incorporating the river and the buildings use. The Museum itself was also interesting with lots of well displayed exhibits and information cards. I would recommend you could spend a full day here exploring.... 更多
Interesting mix of some historic stones, in a wonderfully kept church. It isn't far from the Govan Subway station or there is also the free ferry from the Riverside Museum that runs over the summer. Well worth the visit.
It was a stroke of luck to have found this church. A local recommend us to have a look and some 'old stones' when we asked where the free ferry went from the transport museum. These old stones are old indeed but tell the tale well of Viking raids. Also fascinating to find out the 18th century believed in timeshare... 更多
In all the sites I have visited in my time this is the most understated, under-rated but should be the most valued. Cultured ancient stones, beautiful with loads of history telling a story. I couldn't recommend you visit this more !!
A very enjoyable and informative visit. In the heart of Govan this special place is slightly hidden and has some big surprises inside. The history of Govan is rich. Kings could be buried here – some of this period of history is truly mysterious and the artifacts at Govan church let you see some of artistry of this poorly documented... 更多
A local guide joined my small group of American tourists at the Old Govan Church. It was a marvelous experience, equally inspiring yet not as overwhelming as the grand cathedrals. Therefore everything seemed more accessible. We had an unexpected treat of being serenaded by a man playing the piano. We later learned that he wasn't playing an particular piece, just... 更多
A very interesting building, and the surrounding graveyard is just as interesting. Be sure to take a stroll along the main street, the architecture of some of the buildings is pretty impressive.
The building and location are not worth a second glance however between 1 and 4 daily visitors can see the largest collection of Hog Back Stones; believed to be Viking coffins. They are intriguing objects with intricate carvings. The church building is not the original but it is on the site of the oldest in Scotland and set in its... 更多
