I am a regular user of both the Scotland's People Centre and the Historic Search Room. There is so much information that it would take several lifetime to ferret out everything of interest! I've been visiting here for several years, tracing my family. It's always a pleasure - great surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, and I always find something unexpected and of interest. The General Register House is right in front of Waverley Station as you exit. You can go in and find out anything you want to know about your ancestors. It is a government building so check the opening hours.
This is known as the Dome to locals lawyers (not the Dome that is the pub on George Street) with the monument to Wellington in front of it. In here you can find details of every death, birth & marriage in Scotland - huge amount of information in here
thois is an old historic building with a wealth of history immaculately kept well worth a visit all part of the great Scottish history of clans names and history
