This castle is a must - for the castle, the views, the exhibition, and the village. Great walk to the beach, some really nice restaurants, and one of the nicest villages in the area...
The stairs are steep and narrow turning round as you go up. We were welcomed by staff on the first floor where there is a museum. The second floor held a lovely surprise - it was a super art gallery featuring a collection of paintings dating back to the 1860s, collected by Orchar. The paintings were done by many artists... 更多
Spent a very interesting hour or so exploring the exhibits and historical information provided. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Dogs are not permitted inside the castle. It can also be windy at this location so wrap up if visiting in the cooler months.
We were staying in the village and fell upon this place by accident. Arranged over several floors it combines an art gallery with a fascinating insight into the area and the castle's history, paricularly its importance in the defence of Dundee from attack from the sea. The views from the top are fantastic. Highly recommended.
We had a great day here with our grandchildren, it was educational for them and great views from the top and they were pleased to see that there wasn't a giant living inside? It was a memorable day.
When the castle is open, you can go inside where there are several floors given over to small local history exhibitions. But even when it is closed, it's worth visiting as you can walk around the outside and admire the magnificent setting, the splendid views over the Tay.
