Had never heard of this place but was intrigued by the pub sign leading down an alley so went to investigate, being in need of a refreshment anyway. Mid afternoon on a VERY cold weekday so it was very quiet. Can't comment on food as only had a beer which was ok but not great. there is a cosy wee... 更多
As an ardent Robert Burns fan I have quite often dreamed of one day visiting the famous Globe Inn. Well, this opportunity rose and to say that this visit was a highlight to my U.K., trip is an understatement. The Inn is quaint, rustic and is steeped in the history of Robert Burns. The atmosphere is fantastic and the staff... 更多
I love the globe, it's a great atmosphere and great prices. However in the last 6 months or so, the integrity of the place, especially at the weekend has gone way downhill. They allow people who are clearly underage and are known to be underage and often sell the underage 'regulars' without checking ID. They clearly water down the whiskey... 更多
A real olde worlde pub which feels like you have stepped back in time. The rooms inside let you enjoy hospitality as you would a century ago. Make sure you ask for a tour of the rooms upstairs to view the four poster allegedly used by Robert Burns, and copies of his poems scratched onto glass windows.
What a brilliant place a pub over 400 years old and still trading as one, called in on Saturday when asked if dogs were allowed in even though he wasn't allowed in restaurant we were shown into a beautiful old room so as we could still eat, lovely food and great service it was like a personal dining experience.
Located in a close off High Street, the Globe was the favorite haunt of Robert Burns. This pub was just a few blocks from his house. We had a private "Mini Burns Night Dinner" complete with a recitation of Burns' Address to a Haggis by the past-president of the International Burns Society. After dinner we were given a tour of... 更多
An excellent pub serving very good food and real ale. It was also good to eat in a pub that Robert Burns frequented and referred to as his favourite 'howf'
The room at Globe Inn was like stepping back in time. His chair by the fireplace, pictures on the wall, and a display of his things was almost like being there in Burns' era. Although we just popped in to see the chair, it's possible to dine in that room as well.
We stopped by here on our last night in Dumfries and I am so glad we did. We were fortunate enough to have a tour of the upstairs which has been turned into a small museum dedicated to the late poet, Robert Burns. It was fascinating to see the old etchings of poems he made on the windows of his... 更多
