Scenic River with excellent walks along the quay or on the opposite side of the river. Lots of use with walkers, runners, cyclists, dog walkers and families, bright well lit path for a view of the lovely River.
It's hardly surprising that the city's tourist information always prominently features photos of the River Foyle, it does place Derry-Londonderry in a beautiful setting. The river or lough is also an important wetland habitat as a train ride between Bellarena and Derry shows.
The Sainsbury's Supermarket in Derry is located on the banks of the River Foyle and there is pedestrian/cycle route along the river side. There are a number of sculptures representing a family emigrating from the city and surrounding areas in times past. Large river which had a festival on it while we were there. All very nice and good to attract some tourists in to the town. Not sure how many of the locals participated.
The twelve tall mast yachts competing in the round the world clipper race, along with a supporting flotilla, make a very impressive and spectacular sight on the River Foyle during their visit to Londonderry. Many side shows and entertainments make for a great day out for all the family

The River Foyle played a very important role in the defence of the Atlantic in WW2.Many of the allied navies used the Foyle as their base and its role cannot be underestimated.Futher information on the role played can be found in the Tower Museum I Guildhall Square.
Slow moving, rather sedentary river that passes by the city. Historically, providing transportation. The peace bridge provides nice views of the city.
