This is the one place I did want to visit - just to get the feel and see the murals. These and rfeally outstanding, not only the art work but the meaning of them. Stop awhile, speak with the locals and get the feeling of the history here.
I wrote a bit about the 'murals/troubles' tour on my review for Paddy's tours- worthwhile tour IF you are on the right tour. This is NOT a good self-guided tour. Don't cheap out on this one if the Irish Troubles are at all important to you. There are two sides to the 'Troubles'- both well worth hearing. No tour will... 更多
Being slightly odler this was a slightly surreal experience, having lived through the "troubles". But look past this and you can see some great works of art on the falls road. You can do this independently or part of a tour.
I am old enough to remember the new reports from the 70s and 80s about the violence in this part of the world. to be in the place where so many lives were affected is sobering. Don't miss the peace wall and the gates.
Have taken multiple tours of the the troubles and the must stop location is the Falls Road. If you have a good tour guide the complex and rich history of this catholic working class neighborhood gives great insight into what happened here. I have never walked this tourist location and always had a tour so I can't vouch for safety,... 更多
Went to visit the Falls an Cultúrlann Mac Adam Ó Fiaich during a recent visit. Great to remind the girls our language is appreciated in the farthest away corner of the island! Food was love especially the breakfast. Love bookshop also
Belfast is a lovely city with lots of tourist attractions but I found the Falls Road area the most intriguing area of the city. The republican murals are to be found on the buildings all over the areas surrounding Falls Road. A lot of food for thought regarding the political issues of Northern Ireland and other places such as Palestine.
The Irish troubles of the seventies and eighties and beyond, are today illustrated by explicit wall murals, although now becoming a tourist attraction for all the wrong reasons. One should be aware, behind the paintings and wall murals whole communities were divided. However this side trip from Belfast is still worth a visit. It is quite a walk from the... 更多
we took the open top bus which brought us to the falls road. Had an excellent guide called Moira who was so informative & pointed out all the murals to us, & gave us lots of info on the history of the area. definitely worth seeing. recommend
