Having moved away from Maidenhead my wife recently saw an advert for The Skindles Hotel Exhibition being held in the heritage centre. It was so worth the visit and the presentation brought back so many memories for us both. The Chairman, Richard, made us feel so very welcome and his knowledge was fantastic and to all his colleagues a very... 更多
Really enjoyed this heritage centre - the star of the show has to be the fabulous Spitfire simulator (loved every minute of it!), but the log books and personal stories of the Air Transport Auxiliary are terrific, too. They form a walk-in history of this extraordinary unit if male and many female pilots who ferried aircraft, unarmed and without radio,... 更多
Couldn't recommend this more. It's a great little museum anyway with lots of interesting stuff BUT the Grandma Flew Spitfires experience is fabulous - no matter if you're v old or very young! You get a one-to-one "tuition" session as you fly the simulator and you really do feel you're flying. Plus its affordable - have a go. Take your... 更多
What a fascinating museum dedicated to those men and women whose job it was to fly aircraft from the factories to the boys in blue where ever that was during the war! The aircraft were without any form of communication nor were they armed! so much memorabilia you need time to take it all in, and full marks to the... 更多
This is a great asset to Maidenhead , putting on various visual displays as well as selecting different topics of local interest to give talks on during the week
i went there as i was working in the UK / Maidenhead and passed it on the way to work. for me apart from the general history the information on the bridge was really interesting.
Fascinating history of the air transport auxillary. The guides were interesting and the information boards were easy to read. One of our party flew the Spitfire simulator which he thoroughly enjoyed.
A great place to learn about the heritage of Maidenhead and how it used to look before changes made by planners and developers . Wonderful displays of various finds. Occasional exhibitions of vintage cars and 'have a go' spitfire flight sim.
Plans for aerobatic training fell through on a recent rainy Friday. The ATA Museum and the Spitfire simulator were already a possible "Plan B" when my aerobatics instructor told me how much he enjoyed a visit there. The museum offers a full sized replica of a Spitfire cockpit. You can enter through the traditional drop down panel on the left... 更多
Loads of history here. The Spitfire experience in the simulator was BRILLIANT. The history of the ATA and all that goes with it is fantastic. The centre itself has so much history....even an historical real skeleton!!!! Worth the visit worth the admission price.....a lovely gem to find in Maidenhead.
Thank you for your great review of our little museum and its GREAT Spitfire simulator. It is half term week... 更多
