We were passing, on the way to the Cathedral, and saw a sign for coffee. You just cannot fault an excellent coffee and a biscuit for £1 - we certainly couldn't. We also had an opportunity to marvel at the beautiful painted ceiling in the Nave. So glad that we called in.
We went here because we are fans of hot fuzz and just had to really it would be rude not too. Lovely church lots of great architecture and very easy to get to as its right in the centre of town and didn't cost us a thing whereas the Cathedral is like £15!
It is certainly nice but not nearly as nice and majestic as it's larger and more famous cousin down the street. I'd skip this one and go for the Wells Cathedral. Better use of your time.
We visited Wells to see the Cathedral but found St Cuthbert's church first and were delighted when we stepped inside. It is absolutely beautiful, the stained glass Windows are incredibly beautiful and the whole ambience is wonderful. We were so glad we found this lovely place.
Such a beautiful place of worship, this church is recommended whether you have any belief in God or not...a wonderfully peaceful place for some time out or contemplation. In December there is an amazing Crib Festival here which I highly recommend you visit, there are crib sets from all over the world!
Under the shadow of Wells Cathedral in a classic English Square a delightful market with a variety of goods, most of it locally produced. What was particularly nice was the number of stalls that allowed you to sample the food on sale. We went on Wednesday and it was quite crowded but this just added to the atmosphere. Well worth... 更多
St Cuthberts is a couple of hundred mtrs from the market place, easily accessed and has a very open area around the church. Inside is fairly standard but it does have very nice roof supports and some interesting gravestones on the floor of the church.
I can understand why several reviewers mention that "this is not the Cathedral" because it is certainly impressively large for a Parish Church and situated only a short walk from the Cathedral itself. All church interiors are impressive in their own way and this one has a beautiful ceiling, which I photographed extensively. Also, there were signs of how the... 更多
Have heard many people walking to St.Cuthberts and thinking it's Wells Cathedral, and as a local person put them on the right track, Cathedral up the top of the high street but this church well worth a visit. Situated in St. Cuthbert's street just a 5 minute walk from the bus station in Wells. It was the setting for the movie... 更多
Even though discovered in a vandalised state, the medieval reredos heading the north and south aisles is worth going to see. A project is ongoing to restore these structures. Other gems include wonderful stained glass, a gorgeous ceiling and a plaque commemorating King Charles II. After having looked around this large parishe church (which some folk have mistaken for the... 更多
