I didn't know Vicar's Close was there until we walked around the cathedral and explored a beautiful stone arch. behind the arch is Vicar's Close and a step back in time. Please, take the time to slowly amble up the close and take good notice of the beautiful houses, the coats of arms and the tall chimneys. It's amazing to... 更多
This street of old houses well preserved and with a lovely cobbled roan and cottage style front gardens is well worth a visit when in Wells . Just next to the cathedral .
Beautiful historic street. Very quaint and well worth a visit. if you stand in the middle you may even hear the chatter of the choristers of bygone years. And if you are really lucky get a glimpse of them as they make their way to the cathedral .
visited wells on a coach tour.My friend and i didn't realize vicars close existed we did find it a bit difficult to find at first we had to ask in the tourist information building and we were only a couple of minutes away as it turned out. but perhaps could do with some clearer signs.Well worth the visit like going... 更多
Free to visit, Vicar's Close (I suspect that should be Vicars' Close, really) is England's oldest occupied street. One of the houses was being renovated during our visit (perhaps in response to an adverse comment by an earlier reviewer?!) so we were not able to take photos of the whole close without a big white builder's van in shot.
Great experience to amble up and down this atmospheric Close with the quiet background tones from the music college - particularly if you are lucky to visit when no busy.
We stumbled across this from our walk after visiting wells cathedral. Didn't know it was there but were drawn in from the other side of the road. It's not a place you can walk past without wanting to see more. We walked up and down the close admiring the homes & gardens before returning to the main road
This is just opposite Wells Cathedral but as its gated (gates always open) you have to look to find it. This is a wonderfully preserved old street with old houses either side. The street itself is cobbled all the way so its difficult to walk on. A lovely end to your visit of Wells after the Cathedral.
