After visiting the Jane Austen place, I took a walk around Bath to view some of the places where she lived. After walking to The Circus and The Crescent, I walked back towards the city centre via Gravel Lane where I found this lovely gem of a garden open. Not easy to find as it's off the beaten track; but once there it is a quiet haven, although there's not a lot to see. But it gives an idea of what the city's gardens looked like in the past.
Took me a while to find until I realised it was like someone's back garden (it's attached to one of the houses approaching Royal Crescent). Nice to get an idea of the sort of garden which would have been behind the big houses. Very quiet but worth taking in if you are approaching Royal Crescent through Royal Victoria Park.
Made this a stopping point between The Circle and The Crescent. A pleasant little garden and although not a great deal in flower in August, I'm sure earlier in the year it would have been a picture. Will visit again in mid-late Spring.
A typical Georgian town-house garden, there is a good deal of information and it is rarely busy. Don't expect anything more than a town-house garden, it is small but interestingly laid out. A valuable visit for a horticulturist as part of your walk around the older parts of the city. The park is nearby
