This is just a square surrounded by brick buildings which are not particularly architecturally pleasing. In years gone by just about all the properties were occupied by companies of solicitors. I have no idea how the word Paradise became associated with this area, as it's definitely not my vision of Paradise, far from it.
Sorry Andrew D but this is no where near 'the most beautiful square in the planet'. However, Paradise Square and the side streets around the cathedral (don't forget that there is also the 19th century Catholic cathedral St. Marie's, close to the Crucible) are well worth exploring to get a little of the atmosphere of Sheffield's past.
