Well laid out and lots to look at in a fairly small area - interesting but not overpowering! The staff very friendly and informative, which added real value to the visit.
Small museum set in the Old Gaol (the first purpose built gaol in Britain). It describes how hard life must have been in the boarder country in the past. Some good things for children to do. Take about one hour to visit.
This has to be one of the best kept little museums I have ever visited. It is well laid-out and there are things for children to do to keep them amused. There is sufficient information available to give you a real feel of the reivers - even to the extent of dressing like one.
Very friendly and informative staff and an interesting place to visit for an hour our so. Some interesting displays of local history. A good place to visit if you are in the town.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Hexham Old Gaol. Staff are helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Many of the exhibits are interactive which is great for the children although the main attraction was the dungeon. Dogs are also welcome at this attraction which is an added bonus if you are travelling with your four legged friend. Value for money and... 更多
Was looking forward to visiting as had read some good reviews. It seemed more geared to children rather than adults and most of the displays were dumbed down.
The museum offers an interesting insight into life in the Border Regions hundreds of years ago. there is also displays giving the history of the building which was the first purpose built jail in the country. Plenty of stuff to keep kids interested as well
Had a couple of hours to fill so went to the Old Gaol, what a place, brilliantly done with clear and easy to follow information about the history of the gaol, and the staff really appear to enjoy working there and giving you as much information and help as they can
