In the Shambles ..... look out for what looks like an old house with its green plaque outside. Tranquil and peaceful original home of a True Saint of York a Martyr for the Faith. TIP: Mass is celebrated here at 10am on Saturdays. Leave a prayer in the book on the window sill. Lovely ...... just lovely and its FREE... 更多
It is a small house in the Shambles and is a Shrine to Margaret Clitherow who lived there in 1586 and was made a Saint in 1970. It is small little chapel. Well worth a visit but do some research on the person to get the full feel for who she was and what she did.
This is a tiny little shrine in the middle of York which I've walked past many times and missed. It's very small and you only need to be in there for five / ten minutes to read the couple of information boards, a nice little place to call in.

The shrine is inside a small beamed-ceiling house (look for the green plaque with Maraget Clitheroe's name on it) and has basic information about the history of this remarkable lady. There is no entrance fee,... 更多
Margaret Clitherow's shrine is open to all and there is no admission fee.The shrine consists of a single, small room in a house off the famous medieval street The Shambles.
We were told about this by the owner of our b&b, and even then walked past it the first time! Small entrance on RHS going through Shambles heading away from Minster. Small house set up in memory of an independent minded lady ahead of her time!
The Shrine is dedicated to St. Margarget Clitheroe of York, but is also a place of celebration for Blessed Thomas Thwing. It's an oasis of calm although on the bustling Shambles. Take time to sit and contemplate - then visit the beautiful church of St Martin in Coney Street (with its huge clock) and, perhaps, visit the York Dungeon to... 更多
Stumbled across the Margaret Clitherow shrine when walking along the Shambles, fascinating story about her life and the shrine itself is an oasis of peace and quite.
