Had it not been included in the York Pass, I probably wouldn't have visited this museum! I'm a non-believer but am interested in learning about history and love a story! This is a well laid out museum telling the fascinating stories of Mary Ward and the sisters of the convent. A good mix of film, exhibits and information. As a... 更多
One of the best exhibitions and visits I have been to in a long time. It's well set out, interesting and very good value for money. I would well recommend that a visit to The Bar Convent is a must for any visitors to York,

As a pretty non-religious bloke, I must confess to having scant knowledge of the Reformation and the consequent persecution of Catholics in England. The exhibits here give a comprehensive background to those times and also tell the story of Mary Ward and following mothers superior who continued her work here. Not only did I not realise that this building houses... 更多

I visited York on 4 December to attend a Carol Service at York Minster Cathedral. I stayed at Bar Convent primarily because it was close to the city centre. I was not disappointed and found the hotel to be clean, warm and well kept. Everything was in good working order and had lots of hot water, en suite included and... 更多
The oldest surviving Catholic convent in England was built and operated in secret, so it is purportedly riddled with escape routes and priest holes for the persecuted. I have only visited the chapel here, so I can't tell you about the dining, the bed and breakfast or anything. The chapel is very beautiful, and I was much taken by the... 更多
It is Illuminate York Weekend and we have just had a guided tour of the Bar Convent led by the founder nun, or she was dressed as she would have been in the seventeenth century. We saw the secret chapel and were told lots about it by the current Mother Superior. The priest hole was interesting, as was the access... 更多

We visited with a large group from Norway of mainly none Catholics and we were shown round the chapel by Sister Mary. Everyone was stunned by the place and were so pleased to have seen it.The new museum will soon be ready too. The cafe is not large but serves excellent food. There is accommodation too.
