Lovely walk for all the family as there is a definite path to follow although there were more technical routes to take. Lovely reward by way of Low Water, a lake up in the fell and a fabulous view right over to Ingleborough in Yorkshire
This is not an easy walk, my husband an I managed to get to the tarn before turning back, the weather was against us. It is worth it for the views we could see part of Windermere and Coniston.
If the Old man is approached from Coniston and Coppermines valley - there is a superb landscape of industrial mineworkings to see and explore. A field guide to the mines is available, although you must have a guide before venturing underground. The Youth Hostel is superbly placed and will do dinner for non-residents at a very reasonable £8.50 (must book).
I thought I was fairly fit. Apparently not as fit as I thought! This felt like hard work but boy was it worth it when we got to the top. Fabulous views and worth all the effort.
amazing views on a clear day that make it well worth the climb- one of my fave mountains. Lovely Village to have a few drinks in upon your returm
amazing! quite a climb, but even our 5 and 8 year old daughters enjoyed it! don\t miss it! we climbed abut 2 hours to the lake and then returned in a different way to the village.
The Old Man can be tackled from many sides, the North via Goats Hause for a quieter steeper route to the summit ridge or from the South for a more popular route via the mines and quarries. If the Southern approach is chosen make sure you explore (carefully!) the buildings and take some time to wonder at the tough lives... 更多
Have been walking this since I was a 5 year old, 22 years later it does not fail to impress me. A beautiful location and a walk taken with a couple of breaks will feel rewarding and grant you some absolutely superb views. At the peak; keep your ears and eyes open for the jets that fly through the valley... 更多
Brilliant day walk from the centre of Coniston. We walked up past the copper mines and Levers water and then along the ridge (or it resembled a ridge in February in the snow!) to the summit! Great views from the top.
Absolutely loved this walk... It was recommended to me by a friend, who believes Coniston is the closest you'll get to heaven on earth, I have to admit he might well be right. The walk up the Old Man itself should not be underestimated. . . Moderate walk yes, but only if you have walking experience and a semi decent... 更多
