Blencathra was always going to be high on our 'must walk' list, taunting us on every trip up the A66 to the Lakes. We checked three separate weather forecasts - including the local Mountain forecast - and they promised a sunny, dry day with chance of cloud free summits at 95%, too good to resist. Our walk started at Mungrisdale,... 更多
There are many ways of ascending and descending this iconic fell close to the main road near Keswick. From the adventure (short lived ) of sharp north east edge which is a little more necky in winter conditions to one of the softer rising longer ridges facing south and the road. You can make plenty of cirque or horsehoe routes... 更多
Have climbed this mountain more than 10 times now starting back in 1992 and it remains one of my favourite summits. It has almost everything a mountain walker looks for in a mountain climb - quick and easy access to the mountain, exhilarating ridges for assent and descent where you need both hands and feet, a plentiful choice of routes,... 更多
A friend and i decided to walk up Blencathra. We arrived at 09.00 and despite it being very mild and quite humid the cloud was low over the mountain. As we ascended the mountain the clouds rose and the views became spectacular. As we got near the top the "walk" became a bit of a climb and not for the... 更多

I'm not used to climbing but wanted to challenge myself during our break in the Lakes. I found it hard going in places but was so happy to reach the top. The views are out of this world. We enjoyed a picnic at the top. Hard work coming down but a great experience.
Commenced a very enjoyable walk here from Hope Park in Keswick. We followed the river up towards the Blencathra Centre where we began to climb. It really is a beautiful climb straight up through areas of bracken on a very good path. There is a slight respite as you reach a small plateau before the final push to the top.... 更多
Sharp edge has been on my list of 'things to do' for a long time but I have always been beaten by the weather. Blencathra is suitable for just about all skill levels of walking (within reason!); You can walk to scales tarn and ascend opposite sharp edge; this isn't particularly challenging. Or you can Go up via Halls Fell... 更多
