I'm glad I eschewed the traditional graduation photo when I graduated from Brighton Uni. Instead, I'm standing in front of the West Pier in my gown with my family. Magic. Now, I visit for a weekend at least twice a year and love waking up to the view of its magnificent shell. Starlings at sunset. Magic. And a swim in...
Brightens west pier burnt down quite a few years ago, all that remains are some twisted metal frames sticking out of the sea. The area around is nice for a walk though, with small shops and cafes under the esplanade. There's also a children's paddling pool there now but parking in the area can be quite expensive.
Me and my partner came to Brighton and from our hotel we had a wonderful view of the remains of the west pier. It's beautiful to look and a great piece of history. It's such a shame what happened to it
I dont understand why Tripadvisor has this up. All that's left is scrap metal! Really sad to see. Brighton council should have done something about this in the late70s early 80s, then we might have two wonderful piers.
There really isn't much left of the west pier now it has been left to nature. But if you come to Brighton you must walk down the seafront and take a look. Well worth seeing if you visit. Something that was once great.
Our hotel window looked out onto the shell of the West Pier. It is very interesting to look at - but you cannot go too near it.
In front of it there is the New 360 attraction which was being finished when we stayed.
This should be good!
