The Avenue was rather disappointing with many places closed down and others not offering much choice. The constant flow of tractors was a pain, so much for an island of peace and tranquility. Let's ban small quiet cars and replace them with big noisy tractors.
We visit Sark for a week each year and have witnessed the decline of The Avenue over recent years, which sadly is now mainly a row of closed premises/businesses. What a wonderful place Sark is. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will go again. The people from Sark are very friendly and welcoming.
The houses/shops as I am inclined to think that they may have been at their most prosperous time are fascinating, lined up as they are like a row of ducks, close together & by the placing of the main entrance on the short side of the buildings presumably clustered together against the worst of the weather. The Avenue in Sark is the main street where all the streets diverge from and there are a number of shops!. Though most of the shops are closed down. There is a few decent shops - one for bric-a-brac, one for the weekly shop / occasional shop and the Avenue Cycle hire. The Post Office is at one end of... 更多
There is even a post office where you can get your cards franked with a special Sark frank. It was quite surprising to find so many little shops .
Ok it's a very small island so not much was expected. That said it was such a shame to see most of the outlets down one side all for let.
