This is a small heritage line called Peak Rail with about 4 miles of track running from Matlock to Rowsley. Access to the platforms of the 3 x stations is free, so good for photographs. Currently the small steam engine is out of action due to problems with an injector. Therefore diesel loco's are pulling the trains until a part... 更多
I am local to the area and I do photography, Peak Rail USED to be a picturesque, scenic steam hauled trip from Matlock Riverside to Rowsley south passing through Darley Dale with a longer stop of 5 minutes than the current "intercity" stop of 2 minutes, to allow visitors to explore the extensive sidings full of rolling stock and restoration... 更多
Peak rail train journey including Sunday lunch. Nice choice of menu. Pate starter to much pate and not enough toast. Drinks reasonable priced except for water 90p a glass and £2.50 for a jug of water totally unreasonable.
I came here with my Father- in-Law and Brother-in-Law as a preferred method of travel into Matlock. If you were born in the 50's and used to travel by rail as a child pre-Beeching this is the place to come for a nostalgic day out when staying in the area. Rattling down the track to Matlock is just wonderful, bringing... 更多
We visited during the 1940's Event and I found it an enjoyable day. The Setting is beautiful and the battle in the afternoon was fun to watch. My only complaints are the slow service in the tea room at Rowsley Station and the fact that someone was trying to organise the volunteers in there when there was a Queue to... 更多
We went when a 1940s weekend was on so the tickets were £12 instead of £8. However, I think we would have been in and out a lot quicker had it not been for the stalls etc as part of the weekend. Some people were friendly but one guy displaying his car was really uncommunicative and rude when I enquired... 更多
Not sure if this trip was on a bad day at the Peak Rail, but from start to finish, apart from the Diesel driver, no one smiled, and no one wanted to talk to you, and when you asked a question, there was lots of huffing and puffing, and no real answer, made it a very uncomfortable day out. Do... 更多
we had a wonderful four course lunch on a restored steam train, travelling through the wonderful peak district scenery. the staff were amazing, so was the food , hot, and served almost simultaneously to a group of more than 30 people - what an achievement - and the staff smiled all the way through- we thoroughly recommend this trip out.
I'm not a trainy type of person but this place is worth a look. I'm sure if the proprietors ever get the permissions/funding this place would become even better! The train ride is short but the countryside from a different perspective is nice to see. Dogs are also welcomed.
Peak Rail is full of enthusiasts and it must be great for them to have somewhere to go and play trains. We visited in May 2016 and were part of a coach tour. We got to the station with almost an hour to wait for the train. The total fault of the coach company who should have known the times... 更多
