Although this is not the house from which the young John Wesley was plucked, like a 'brand from the fire' (the thatched cottage previously on this site) , this is the fine Queen Anne house that Samual Wesley his wife Susannah and ten surviving children came to call home. Saved by a charity in the 1950s this has become as... 更多
It's an interesting house but not much more. It really is about the Wesley family. My ancestors were Wesleyan which is why they were encouraged to move to Australia. The guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable so what I imagined would consume half an hour took an hour and a half.
Epworth is clearly proud of its links to the Wesley family and the Methodist movement. The whole town proclaims this history, and the Old Rectory is the jewel in the crown. Much attention has been paid to restoring the home with period pieces, including many items owned and used by the Wesleys. It is a must-see for anyone interested in... 更多
Worth a visit especially if you have an interest in Wesley as there is quite a lot about his life and the others in the family. Guides are excellent and even offered tea or coffee! Allow about an hour for a visit and make sure you take a walk around the Physic garden. There is a small gift shop which... 更多
Took visiting friends as we live locally and have never been. House is architecturally uninspiring, the guided tour was a dull affair. It may have been more interesting if I was a Methodist. We visited on Wednesday morning and enjoyed the guided tour, very worthwhile experience and the Guide was excellent. The visit brought home everything we have looked forward to in visiting this building.
Went early Dec on an evening candle light group tour, which was very interesting, with knowledgeable guides in period costumes. The house takes on a different aspect in the flickering light with objects apearing out of the gloom, especially the costumed manikins. The history of the house was revealed in word and a little song most effectively. A sesonal snack... 更多
The house is interesting and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. The Wesley family lived very differently from modern families. And with many children. But in reality, it is most important to persons in the Wesleyan tradition.
