With my bad luck I arrived on a day that everyone else decided to visit. I took a while to find a spot in the parking lot. This place is very different than Stonhinge and well worth the trip up there. This stone circle location is very different than the other and the history reveals some interesting comparisons.
This is only worth doing if you live within 15 minutes (if so you will already have visited) or come a long distance to see Stonehenge and have 15 minutes to kill. It genuinely only takes 15minutes to stroll round and read the information on the board. The views of the surrounding area are nice but tat really is it.
Woodhenge is a lovely low key spot. It is to the east of Stonehenge and is the result of a 1920s excavation with now six concentric circles of concrete bollards put into the position where post holes were createdover 3000 years ago. There is a small car park, information boards and great long distance views. It needs to be taken... 更多
For those with a fascination about Pre-historic and Bronze Age history - here's something for your bucket list. That said, the main attraction is relatively small and quickly ticked off. The surrounding area is brilliant for long dog walks, penned in to avoid livestock (though you will walk through some areas with sheep) and vast. There's signage in the fields... 更多
We arrived on a warmish summer evening after having visited Stonhenge. There were few people here (other than those playing pokeman go) and it was a quiet and tranquil place. Concrete stumps indicate where large wooden posts would have stood and there is a plaque describing the history and location. We were there for about 30 minutes but there are... 更多
Concrete stumps that are less then knee high now represent what would have originally been true trunks many feet high and a fair amount of the impact is lost. Parking is free but there isn't much of it so you end up parking on the roadway most of the time, not great if you have young children with you. Fine... 更多
To be honest there is not much to see here on the surface but it is still worth a visit to understand the prehistoric and Bronze Age history of the area and the wider Stonehenge landscape. There are two monuments, the impressive earth works of durrington walls and woodhenge itself. Several good walks in the area to occupy more time... 更多
Park on the side of the road and see Woodhenge for free concrete dowels now represent the positioning of the original wood. Quite amazing site apparently a pokemon go stop if you are into that, I am not. Loved it
Not sure what we expected when we drove up but we were greeted with many stumps in the ground which represent where the original wooden posts were situated. We were able to walk around and there were one or two information boards explaining what the site would have looked like originally. Ace spot for a lovely walk, dogs are allowed... 更多
We had been to Stonehenge so thort it was worth a peek, nothing there really and they aren't wood but still good. Also a plus for kids it was a good hot spot for Pokemon...
