Just happened to see this large old building as we drove down main street St. Thomas. We stopped to take a photo and noticed the St. Thomas and Elgin County Art Guild were having a show and sale. The Caso Station is restoration at its finest. I had the pleasure of helping restore this beautiful building. You can take a tour through it and the hours are posted. Very interesting, very clean and nice to see the old typewriters and luggage, gave you a sense of the day. Very quite but well worth the visit.
This building has been renovated over the past several years and it has all happened because of hard working volunteers and great support from the population of the surrounding area. They have created wonderful spaces for offices, smaller meetings and larger community events.
Memories come alive for me in this building. Not only is it being used for offices now, but it takes you back in time when this building was used by railroad people and passengers. It also now caters to Wedding Receptions.
Amazing restoration of an historic site. When I saw it in 2006 (after being away from St. Thomas over 50 years), it was in terrible shape. Due to dedicated, hard working, historically-minded citizens, the station is still being restored to its former glory.
