Just off Alberni Highway is a surprising treasure near Nanaimo: a gorgeous waterfall. There is ample, paved parking, covered picnic area (because it could literally rain at any given moment on the island), sufficient washrooms, easily-discerned trail markers, and well-maintained trails. We stopped here not knowing really what to expect - we discovered a series of waterfalls cutting a canyon through the terrain, and a hiking trail linking bridges at the top and bottom. It was a great little stop off and an unexpected pleasure
We stopped in here on the way from Tofino to Courtenay. Plenty of parking, toilets and picnic benches. We had a picnic lunch here then walked the trails to both upper and lower falls - a rally pleasant way to spend a few hours.
Perfect place to take a stroll, soak your feet in the river, enjoy nature and peace and quiet! Could have spent all day just sitting in the woods by the river! Must see!
I was recently there for a visit with some friends, and found the falls area to be quite clean and tidy, no debris or garbage left out, and not very busy, even though it was mid august!
