Limestone caves on the edge of a steep drop down the Upana canyon. Forest trail winds down the slope thru the trees past waterfall and a number of small caves, ending at the bottom with a large cave. Some steep trail and a long, steep stairway at the end. Beautiful surroundings.
situated on the logging road from Gold River to Tahsis it is pristine site consisting of a series of caves, some large some small but all worth exploring. They are connected by a path through the forest going down the side of a mountain culminating in the largest cave that need a lantern to explore. A stream runs out the... 更多
17 km drive on a well maintained gravel road and then a short hike to the caves. Caves for all here, from the experienced caver to children as there is caves you can see through and others that you will need appropriate gear.
We had a bit of time in the Gold River area before flying out to hike... Upana Caves was an excellent way to spend a few hours. The Caves are truly great, and easy to access. The interpretive signs where well done, and easy to follow. Time well spent!
We visited a small cafe called "Clayworks Cafe & Gallery" for a cup of coffee and the owner Neil Lawrence asked us if we was interested in trekking and looking at some exciting caves and of course we was that, so we went the 20 minutes drive up a gravel road in the rain and we found the Caves but... 更多
Easy to find the exit from the highway but not easy to find the actual caves since the only sign is painted on a large rock and very misleading. So just you know you have to turn onto the walkway right after the welcoming sign and do not go on the road toward where they say toilets the caves themselves... 更多
Nothing greater than exploring accessible caves where it is cool on a hot day. The trail head is located on the right hand side of head bay rd - watch carefully or you can miss the turn off. You don't have to go in all the way, you can just explore around and go in a bit. Really worth seeing.
On the drive from Gold River halfway to Tahsis check out the Upana Caves. It is about 2 km off the main road. And about a 10 minute walk on the excellent trails to the first cave. While I am not a “caver”, I did check them out with caution. All are different and very exciting to see and experience.... 更多
Like others have stated the trail head is a little tricky...there is a wood post at the trail head that says CAVES. Getting to the caves is a short, easy walk and once there the caves are well labeled. Dirty and interesting, check it out.
The only bad comment I have to make is that it is difficult to find due to lack of signs. If you go, it is not marked but the trail right beside the creek is how you walk to the caves. If you have travelled BC.. you know what I mean about lack of signage for those that don't know... 更多
