Beautiful smock windmill within walking distance of Upminster Bridge District line station and Upminster C2C. It has wooden gear wheels and the teeth of the gears are made of pearwood which apparently is the best for this type of operation. This old landmark is a great place to visit. It has open days that are advertised locally. Do not be put off by some of the other reviews here as they are for the pub down the road called the Windmill. This is a lovely old windmill maintained and run by very knowledgeable volunteers. It is a great place to take youngsters 4 -5 years upwards.
Open two weekends a month through the summer and staffed by volunteers. Free guided tours of the most complete smock mill in the country. If you live local or are interested in a bygone age, or like old engineering then visit...there is something of interest for all tastes and ages.
