The small brochure we received at the Visitor's Centre doesn't do justice to the cruise. Never having been on a boat going through the lock system, this was a very neat experience. The highlight was the Liftlock where the boat was lifted 77 feet in 3 minutes. The captain was the "tour guide" and was very engaging and very knowledgeable... 更多
First of all it should not be called a sightseeing cruise...it should of just been advertised as a lock ride up and a turnaround and a lift lock ride back to see how the locks operate....there was not really any sightseeing to be done...it wasn't a long enough trip up the water way...we just looked for a wide spot to... 更多
I went through the lock again and still learned some interesting information. First visit for my niece and she really enjoyed the experience. Great staff and commentary. Thank you.
An engineering marvel built in the year 1904 which needs to be experienced. Just imagine a ship getting lifted to an height of 60 feet. The cruise consists of two lift locks one to the height of 12 feet and another to an height of 60 feet making it the world's highest lift lock. If you plan to visit Canada... 更多
We took the tour boat ride last weekend on a baking hot day and were thankful we went in the morning. There is full shade almost everywhere on the boat. The captain was funny and talked continuously about the history and interesting facts on the build of both the canal and the locks, as well as some points of interest... 更多
There are cruises for different lengths of time. There is a small boat cruise with a crew of two of the kindest staff. There are several cruises throughout the day on their large cruise boat, all taking a ride up and down the liftlocks. There is a dinner cruise, a twilight cruise and you can even rent the cruise boat... 更多
In terms of an engineering design and build it's amazing once you realize that it was build on 1904, more than hundred years ago! and is Lock 21 on the Trent-Severn Waterway. The dual lifts are the highest hydraulic boat lifts in the world, with a lift of 19.8 m.
Plenty of useful information and some excellent humour by the staff, snacks and drinks are also available on board. It was a pleasant experience.
My husband and I took our two grandkids, seven and five on the cruise. it was not only informative but the scenery and views were wonderful. Our grandkids enjoyed it and we all learned something new about the area. Well worth it.
When one lives in Peterborough it is so easy to put the Liftlocks in the "get around to it" category but we had out of town guests so that prompted us along. No doubt a beautiful and historically accurate bit of Peterborough pride and breathtaking awe at the marvel of the world's highest hydrolic locks? A bit pricey for the... 更多
