If you visit Ottawa, you must take the time to see at least some of the Rideau Canal. It was an engineering marvel of it's time and we are so grateful to have it today. You will really enjoy it whether you climb the locks where it starts (just behind Parliament Hill), just watch the boats come & go, you... 更多
Highly recommend that you take a drive or bike ride from the lift locks down to Dow's Lake. Very pretty drive. Best spot to take a picture of the canal: On the Wellington/Rideau Street (rue) bridge with the Fairmont hotel in the background.
It is a clean and open space the does not feel like youare in the city. A great deal of people walking, running cycling but we did not feel crowded at all.
I took a group of my students along the Rideau Canal when we were in Ottawa. The walk was very nice. We all laughed when we saw a skunk in the canal living there. Unfortunately the Canal was low due to the winter and not full yet. Great little way to wander around downtown Ottawa.
The canal is a UNESCO world heritage site. You can walk, run or cycle along it or paddle on it. The canal connects multiple neighbourhoods. It is really one of the jewels of Ottawa
Been skating on the canal twice, both times it was great fun, exercise... We first saw Rideau Canal and locks while walking to the famous Fairmont Chateau Laurier. A beautiful view can be had by the bridge nearby looking down. We had the opportunity to walk by the waterfront area and even took a tour on Paul’s Boat ride on the Ottawa River. As we were waiting, we observed a thirty food boat... 更多
As a child growing up on its banks I have wonderful memories. Thankfully the beauty of it survives today. A cycle or a walk along its banks are wonderfully rewarding. Gorgeous homes and embassies with beautiful gardens and at this time of year the millions of tulips. And it is all free.
This man made canal offers so much beauty to the centre of a busy city. In the summer the canal is surrounded by green grass, trees and the wonders of nature. The surroundings offer a place to stroll, bicycle, walk or run. Pack a lunch, grab a good book and relax on the well groomed lawns or perch yourself on... 更多
