This system of locks is well worth taking a look at. Depending on how much time you have you can dart out from kingston to visit a few of them. It really is worthwhile and you won't be disappointed to see these engineering marvels at work. At Jones falls is a road bridge that swings around to allow the boats... 更多
This was a lovely spot. Beautiful maintained area around the locks. The locks are operated by park rangers and it is great to watch the boats passing through. There are no refreshments so best to take a picnic as its a good spot to relax
Love the old damn and the historical significance of such. Also found it fascinating to see the wooden sluice the the hydro station. Something about seeing such large pipes and then knowing they are made of wood and still going strong for over 70 years.
Just a short distance from Hwy 15 north of Kingston. Great spot for photos and a small learning centre with video to explain the construction of the Rideau canal system. Worth the trip....and free.
We spent seven days touring the Rideau from Portland to Westport to Jones Falls, Seeleys Bay, Upper Brewers and back again. Great experience. Beautiful scenery and many historical sites. Met many great, friendly people willing to help out in any way they could. Looking forward to doing it all over again.
Jones Falls is one of my favourite places to spend time in the world. Out of the way of any vehicle traffic in an idyllic setting in the woods with the canal locks in the centre, forested lands all around and beautiful lakes at either end, it is truly a jewel of a getaway for a day or more with... 更多
If you are in the area, you should enjoy the Rideau Canal. From Ottawa to Kingston, a series of 45 locks and parks that are places to enjoy boating, fishing and the outdoors. The Rideau Canal is a huge part of history between Canada and the USA.
The Rideau Canal is not just one place - it's made up of numerous lock stations between Kingston and Ottawa. Each location is different and I've been to the ones from Kingston up to Newboro. I hope to get to more locations this summer. Each lock is surrounded by parkland and breathtaking scenery. Some have museums, some have interpretive material...all... 更多
It's nice to visit these little pieces of our Countries History to have a "hands on" experience with our Countries beginnings. Nothing wrong with learning things as we get older or just starting out.
