We caught the end of a day there before it was closed on a Monday and Tuesday. Bill Reid is probably one of the best, if not the best!...area artists, carver, jewelry maker, print maker.... a wonderful collection of his works. Excellent gift shop!
Bill Reid was one of Canada's top First Nations artisans...his carving and metal work some of the best you'll see. Reid is responsible for the incredible enormous jade stone sculpture at the Vancouver Airport and his work is further showcased at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, another must see if you're visiting the coast.
The first nations' inspirations and the location were the extraordinary aspects of the gallery. İt was more like a contemporary museum of its kind.
If you want to understand the relationship between first nations art and modern Canada, then this is the place to visit. A well laid out and thoughtfully presented gallery, detailing Bill Reid's work as well as work by others influenced by him. A full morning's visit with a great shop too. Don't miss out on this.
Have lived in Vancouver for 61 yrs. and never visited until now. This would be the place to view first nations art if you don't have time to visit the Museum of Anthropology at U.B.C.
