The amount of gold leaf was surprising given the rather non-descript exterior of the building. The amoumnt of detail and art within was truly amazing. We enjoyed the beaurtiful walk from our hotel to the Sanctuary. There are a number of public parks along the way and in the vicinity. Definately a high light of our vist to Morelia.t
Located in the center of Morelia the cathedral dates from the 1500's. It is a quiet place to rest and reflect but also a place of celebration. We saw two weddings which were a charming insight into Mexican culture. The church bells pealed out the joy!
We stopped here on a tour of the historic district. It was beautiful with many murals and glitz .Unfortunately I don't speak Spanish so the information about the sanctuary was lost to me but it didn't detour from the enjoyment. Peaceful.
Truly I was expecting an old church like any other but once I entered I almost lost my breath with the colourful and over-saturated interior. I think this architectural style is called "churrigueresco" por something like that. It is a "do not miss spot" while in Morelia.
If you are in Morelia you might want to visit the Guadalupe Sanctuary. You can take a little city tour with a small bus and they would take you here as well. The bus collects the tourists in front of the big cathedral. But it is only for Spanish speakers!!!
This particular church reminded us of the many we had seen in Portugal. Very ornate and a lot of gold..... The ceiling/dome were absolutely made for photos.....stunning, so intricately and delicately adorned. It was awesome enough to stun the two grandkids into absolute silence!
This unique church is located in the heart of "historical down town morelia" The baroque style is characteristic of the whole area, but this particular church is well preserved and still in regular used. Its beautiful and a very good stop point in your trip even if you are not catholic, the history in art is well worth it. Excellent... 更多
The church does not look much from the outside, but is fascinating from the inside. Apart from the gold and flower decorations, we liked the huge paintings showing how the Spanish Conquistadors submit the local population - it looks so real. Definitely worth a look.
Beautiful inside, take your camera, lots of gold on the walls of this beautiful and ancient church. The ceiling is a must see and unique.
