Beautiful murals painted by the famous Fernando Pacheco. Very impressive. When in Merida you must visit this and all the interesting sites on the Zocalo.
Nice building with historical relevance. The murals were interesting, but they were all by the same artist, so a bit monotonous. Good historical information presented. Free admission, so why not? The architure alone was worth seeing.
It's definitely worth calling in here, both to experience the interior of a lovely old colonial building and to view the wall murals depicting moments from the history of the Spanish occupation of the Mayan people. Also, it's a free attraction!
The Governor's Palace is a working government building, with the Governor's offices located there. There is a small Tourist Information office immediately as you enter which is very helpful, with brochures, suggestions etc. The State Police guarding the premises are alert but also very helpful with any questions you may have.
