Liked this museum but wasn't overly impressed. Wish it had more art mixed in with the artifacts. You can visit this within a half hour. It's not very big at all.
Lovely museum in a colonial style house with courtyard. Printed English guides at each entrance. Different striking colors for each room. A lovely way to spend an hour or so looking at an extensive pre-Colombian collection.
We were only there for 4 days and would not do it again especially for such a short trip. But regardless, glad we checked that off our list, I guess if your in the neighborhood you can always take a quick look.
From what I understand, Rufino Tamayo was a famous painter from Oaxaca. He was a great collector of pre hispanic art and his collection was donated after his death and this museum was created. I must admit that I was not too excited about visiting this museum. It was a bit off the beaten path and I've been disappointed by regional museums of pre-Columbian art.
