This is a very large church next to the university. The exterior is difficult to appreciate as it is on a narrow street but the baroque details of the facade are impressive. The inside is huge with a great cupola: it is far quite than that of the basilica and frequented mostly by locals attending the various functions.
Not as beautiful from the outside as the nearby Basilica but has some very detailed carving on the interior and in size seems even larger....well worth a look
Of all the churches in Guanajuato, we found this one to be the most impressive in terms of the sheer size of it. Also found it to be very peaceful to sit inside taking in the tranquility and the pigeons occasionally flying around.
The outside of this church is not as eye-catching as the Basilica, but I find the inside more attractive than the Basilica. Even if you are not religious, you should still check it out. It's worth 5-10 mins of your time.
Beautiful church with lots of details. The church is not that big and takes only 10-15 minutes to walk through (less or more depends on how interested you are). The best part is the altar in the front with lots of details and also has a few idols in the front.
This church is an early example of the Churrigueresque style -- very elaborate facade. It's a huge church with some reconstruction going on when I visited. We were very lucky, however, to walk into the church at just the time the pre Semana Santa celebrations were beginning and saw a wonderful procession and service.
